Data & Technology

We’re excited to share that a dedicated All Taxa Biodiversity Inventory (ATBI) Data Repository is now available for uploading and preserving datasets related to understanding the diversity of life in California. This is a key step in supporting long-term access to your valuable research and fostering collaboration across the community.

What kinds of data are welcome?

If you are an ATBI partner, we encourage you to upload any research data you’ve collected as part of your CIB-related work. This includes (but is not limited to):

  • Species occurrence records

  • Digitized specimen collections

  • DNA barcode sequences

  • Environmental data

  • Photographs, audio, or other media linked to species records

If you're unsure whether your dataset is appropriate, the answer is probably yes—we aim to be as inclusive as possible in supporting biodiversity research.

How to get started

When your data is ready, please complete the ATBI Data Deposit Initial Information Form. This brief form gathers essential information about your dataset (description, format, size) to help us plan for upload. More information is available in the Getting Start page. From there the data curation team is available if you need support (whether technical or organizational) during the process.

Thank you for contributing to the CIB project’s long-term impact. We look forward to working with you to make your data accessible, reusable, and preserved for the future. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us.
